The urban area includes four cities: Wellington, on the peninsula between Cook Strait and Wellington Harbour, contains the central business district and about half of Wellington's population; Porirua on Porirua Harbour to the north is notable for its large Māori and Pacific Island communities; Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt are largely suburban areas to the northeast, together known as the Hutt Valley. Wellington also holds the distinction of being the world's southernmost capital city.In 2008, Wellington was classified as a Gamma World City in the World Cities Study Group's inventory by Loughborough University. The 2010 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Wellington 12th in the world. In 2011 Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2011 named Wellington as fourth in its Top 10 Cities to Visit in 2011, referring to the New Zealand capital as the "coolest little capital in the world". New Zealand's capital In 1865, Wellington became the capital city of New Zealand, replacing Auckland, where William Hobson had placed the capital in 1841. The Parliament of New Zealand had first met in Wellington on 7 July 1862, on a temporary basis, but Wellington did not become the official capital city for three more years. In November 1863, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Alfred Domett, places a resolution before Parliament (meeting in Auckland) that "... it has become necessary that the seat of government ... should be transferred to some suitable locality in Cook Strait [region]." Apparently, there had been some concerns that the more highly populated South Island (where the goldfields were located) would choose to form a separate colony in the British Empire. Several Commissioners invited from Australia (chosen for their neutral status to help resolve the question) declared that Wellington was a suitable location because of its central location in New Zealand and good harbour. Parliament officially met in Wellington for the first time on 26 July 1865. At that time, the population of Wellington was just 4,900. As the national capital, Wellington is the location of the highest court of New Zealand, the Supreme Court. The historic former High Court building has been enlarged and restored for the use of the Supreme Court.Government House, the official residence of the Governor-General, is in Newtown, opposite the Basin Reserve. Premier House, the official residence of the Prime Minister, is in Thorndon on Tinakori Road.Wikipedia

Top 10 Largest Cities or Towns of New Zealand Thanks for watching.... 1. Auckland 2. Wellington 3. Christchurch 4. Hamilton 5. Napier-Hastings 6. Tauranga 7. Dunedin 8. Palmerston North 9. Nelson 10. Rotorua New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North Island, or Te Ika-a-Māui, and the South Island, or Te Waipounamu – and numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long isolation, New Zealand developed a distinctive biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland. Polynesians settled New Zealand in 1250–1300 CE and developed a distinctive Māori culture. Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer, was the first European to sight New Zealand in 1642 CE. In 1840, the British Crown and Māori signed the Treaty of Waitangi, making New Zealand a British colony. Today, the majority of New Zealand's population of 4.5 million is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and Pacific Islanders. Reflecting this, New Zealand's culture is mainly derived from Māori and early British settlers, with recent broadening arising from increased immigration. The official languages are English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, with English predominant. The country's economy was historically dominated by the export of wool, but exports of dairy products, meat, and wine, along with tourism, are more significant today. Nationally, legislative authority is vested in an elected, unicameral Parliament, while executive political power is exercised by the Cabinet, led by the Prime Minister, who is currently John Key. Queen Elizabeth II is the country's head of state and is represented by a Governor-General. In addition, New Zealand is organised into 11 regional councils and 67 territorial authorities for local government purposes. The Realm of New Zealand also includes Tokelau (a dependent territory); the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing states in free association with New Zealand); and the Ross Dependency, which is New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica. New Zealand is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Nations, ANZUS, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Pacific Islands Forum and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. New Zealand was one of the last major landmasses settled by humans. Radiocarbon dating, evidence of deforestation and mitochondrial DNA variability within Māori populations suggest New Zealand was first settled by Eastern Polynesians between 1250 and 1300, concluding a long series of voyages through the southern Pacific islands. Over the centuries that followed these settlers developed a distinct culture now known as Māori. The population was divided into iwi (tribes) and hapū (subtribes) who would sometimes cooperate, sometimes compete and sometimes fight with each other. At some point a group of Māori migrated to the Chatham Islands (which they named Rēkohu) where they developed their distinct Moriori culture. The Moriori population was decimated between 1835 and 1862, largely because of Taranaki Māori invasion and enslavement in the 1830s, although European diseases also contributed. In 1862 only 101 survived and the last known full-blooded Moriori died in 1933. New Zealand is one of the world’s best places to live and retire, best place to rise your family. It has a very pleasant climate, great beaches, a wide variety of outdoor activities, cultural attractions, free health care (for the most part), a good educational system, economic freedom, a lack of corruption and attractive, modern cities. Known for the stunning landscapes featured in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings". Here're 10 best places to live in New Zealand: 1 . Christchurch , Canterbury. 2 . The Bay of Plenty. 3. Waikato Region. 4. Dunedin, Otago. 5. New Plymouth, Taranaki. 6. Wellington. 7. North Shore, Auckland. 8. Nelson. 9. Queenstown Lakes, Otago. 10. Selwyn, Canterbury. If you are moving to live in New Zealand and you’re really not sure where you want to settle, Auckland can be a great place to begin, you can rent accommodation easily within the city and it has fantastic transport links for the rest of the nation. But be sure to use these transport links, explore the North and South Islands and find the location that best suits you before you buy a home or even commit to living in New Zealand full time. Whilst the nation is not vast or overpopulated, it does encompass such an impressive array of geographically different regions that it would be a crime not to explore far more of the country than its leading city before you settle on a place in New Zealand to call home. ================== Thanks for watching. See the interesting points of the biggest cities of the North Island (Auckland and Wellington) and of the South Island (Christchurch and Dunedin). The famous attraction of the metropolis Auckland is the Sky Tower. From there the view over the city with its Town Hall and War Memorial Museum is magnificent. Wellington is the capital with the Parliament. You can take the cable car for a wonderful view over the city and to visit the botanical garden. Christchurch was a bustling city before the earthquake. Two years later (January 2013) the city shows a desolate impression. Some roads are still closed. But it will change. The cathedral, the Arts Centre and other historical buildings will be renovated. Victoria Square will be renewed. At the moment there is a beautiful botanical garden. Dunedin looks like a Scottish city. See the Scottish architecture of the Railway Station and other buildings.

Felt like a cockroach when I arrived in Auckland. I had no money and was then interviewed by 3 different people asking the same questions. They wanted to know even my former boyfriend's es wife's name. They tried to find drugs by smelling inside my shoes because I'm from a poor country and has no money. Cried a lot when my boyfriend finally saw me after I was hold for three hours. Can't deny that I was ver well treated by the officers. They were very nice to me. I also felt like a cockroach when after being living with my another boyfriend, I was invited to leave the country because my visa had expired. Glen couldn't marry me because he was only one year separated and in NZ, one can only remarry after 2 years of separation. We both got very sad but then after we call immigration, they said that once I was in Brazil I could apply for a working visa partnership based and then return. Glen and I got very happy. We believe in what was told but an Asian who probably want born in NZ denied my visa. My relationship with Glen was over and I got very depressed and was medicated by a psychiatrist. If you're looking for a country where you can easily get an ilegal work don't go to NZ. If you want an easy Visa, avoid NZ. If you decide to go: PLEASE: never omit or lie about anything to immigration. They're always one step ahead of us. Thanks for watching my videos mates. ;-) The country is very beautiful and kiwi people are the best ones. Love them. ;-) Good travel.

Apologies for the lack of a techno soundtrack! Thanks heaps for the four drivers who took my camera along for the ride, especially the kind driver who posted it back to me! http://www.expedia.com/Wellington.d6127327.Destination-Travel-Guides New Zealand is known as the “Land of the Long White Cloud” to its native Maori people, and Wellington is its cultural, political, and culinary capital. In fact, Wellington is the southernmost capital in the entire world. This compact city is trendy, creative, and begging to be explored. Wellington tourism is diverse; fresh ocean winds blow off the Cook Strait and invite you to kayak in the harbor or explore the beach. The compact city center is replete with street art and museums and imbued with creativity. Many Wellington tours begin with a cup of coffee at a downtown café. Once your eyes are open, take a walking tour of the area and observe the eclectic architecture, including the Parliament building and its beehive-shaped executive wing. Next, ride a historic Wellington cable car from Lambton Quay to the Botanic Garden. Make your way back down on foot, weaving through the gardens on scenic paths. For a look at the history of this South Pacific capital, go to Te Papa National Museum, which outlines the country’s cultural heritage. Cap off your day of Wellington sightseeing with a locally brewed beer on the wharf and enjoy some fine dining at one of the many cozy city center restaurants.
